Patrick Procktor was a talented printmaker. His subject matter and technique are rather conventional. He travelled to Italy and Greece with Michael Upton and on his return produced a number of large figures in landscapes like this one probably painted from Tuscany, that formed the basis of his first sell-out exhibition at the Redfern Gallery. He was later elected a member of the Royal Academy
