A Japanese white metal, composition and lacquer belt, Meiji period (1868-1912)

 

consisting of fourteen ivorine or other composition material elongated octagonal plaques and two clasps, each decorated in lacquer with kacho-ga (birds and flowers) and bamboo, mounted within white metal frames with rope twist edges and strung together with circular metal links

Size:
62cm long overall, each plaque 3.5cm x 3cm, the clasp plaque 4.4cm x 3.7cm
Condition:
Condition commensurate with age, some wear to the lacquer, and very small areas of pink staining to the surface, the reverse with some old glue in places and some markings, a few plaques with cracks or crack type marks, and some links replaced. Please note that as the composition of the plaques may be made of ivory dust mixed with resin, then this will still require a CITES permit if exporting outside of the EU.
