An original Japanese woodcut by Tsukioka Kogyo (1869-1927) depicting a scene from the Noh Theatre, early 20th century.
Tsukioka Kogyo was a great late nineteenth century Japanese woodcut artist. During his career Kogyo created a number of fine woodcuts dealing with both natural history and contemporary events. However, his most well-known works were those depicting scenes from the Noh Theatre, which were published in various sets in Tokyo from 1897 to 1926 and provide important historical and artistic information about this aristocratic form of drama.
