oil on canvas, inscribed in Tamil and signed S.K.Ayyar. The Chettiyars are a prosperous Tamil community centred on Nattukottai, Tamil Nadu, their wealth deriving from agriculture and trade. They are best known in the west for their distinctive cuisine as exemplified by 'chettinad chicken'.
